- I am a freelance writer located in Portland, Maine. I am kind of a history buff and have always been interested in historic places and travel. I have visited every Maine Historic site in the state over the years. Maine has a lot of history and I find that traveling with my family during the summer and visiting these historic locations in Maine is a great way to educate my kids about Maine and its heritage and have fun all at the same time. It is a great way for my kids to really appreciate Maine and its history.

I love your site and have been interested in history since high school. Now that my daughter is attending Orono, this gives me more places to explore on trip the up and back.
I had the chance to stay at Ft. Knox in July and it was, without a doubt, the most breathtaking site I have ever seen.
The fireworks over Bucksport, as viewed from the top of the Fort, were particularly memorable.
